It's not ALL bad news...

Sometimes it is easy to get caught up in the microcosm of the world news cycle. A killing here, a horrible crash there, the war, politics, deception and so on. I constantly bitch about news coverage, local mostly, being dominated by war, crime and all the bad things that happened. They normally end the news with the cute-animal-trick-human-interest-heartstring tugging story which is normally all of 30 seconds long. You know, "Buster, the poodle, jumped off a pier over 16 turtles for a world record today in Luxembourg." (Cue Anchor chuckle.) But the majority of the news show is not friendly. Kids should not watch. Adults should not watch. My friend, Troy says: "Do I watch the News? Hell no, I don't like that show."
Here's some refreshing reminders of the truly amazing world we live in.

1. You can learn the same material that Physicists and Brilliant academics do at MIT: For Free!
MIT is giving away their knowledge online. It's called OpenCourseware. In an effort of goodwill, you no longer have to be rich to learn. Although, you do need to have a broadband connection- which is not cheap. Still Cool! I really hope to do this someday.

2. Currently, two humans live in space and have for a year, two more are going soon. Two robots are searching Mars' surface and finding evidence of water while scientists watch in real time. We can see into many other galaxies. Plans are being made for space tourisim. Amazing.

3. There is a child named Jay Greenberg (12) being hailed as a prodigy and compared to Mozart. He is truly amazing and his music is incredible. Read the story here. Unbelieveable.

4. This one is a mixed blessing. It is a great thing and a tragedy all at once. What would you say if I told you that a city in America was just wired for phone service? It's true. Let's all move to Mink, LA, There are many towns like this in America; especially in the south. I have seen them and it is not pretty. Thank goodness we are spending over 5 billion dollars (Tech infrastructure)to REWIRE parts of Iraq for phone and internet. Because we are the "richest country in the world, and it is our duty to help others heklp themselves." Right? Hmmm.

5. Do you have love and laughter in your life? Well, then things ain't so bad. In the most literal sense, to quote Louie: "What a Wonderful World."
